Project Description
In partnership with the National Outdoor Leadership School, in June 2013, nine mountaineers set out to become the first all-African-American expedition to climb Denali (a.k.a. Mount McKinley) in Alaska.
In ongoing efforts to highlight Corporate Social Responsibility which often includes recognition of diversity initiatives and inclusiveness in business practices, JYMG was inspired by the mission of the mountaineers and also that of NOLS to take the lead in bringing awareness to the issue of a seemingly lack of diversity within the outdoor industry from advertising, story coverage and long-term involvement of environmental and economic issues.
The Expedition Denali promotional video was shot over a two day period in Lander, Wyoming.
The mountaineers did not ultimately summit Denali, but still made an historic mark with the expedition and subsequent public speaking engagements and awareness programs resulting from the climb.
